Two by Two on the Copper Basin Railway
Another frame from my September trip to the desert southwest. Our overall schedule meant we were passing by the general area of the Copper Basin Railway on a Sunday, and therefore it wasn't in the cards to find anything running since it sounds like operations are down to just weekdays for the trip to Magma Junction. But since it was a sunny day it seemed worthwhile to visit the area anyway, and I thought perhaps there might be something sitting outside the shops to see.
Sure enough, thanks to the aerial camera I was able to get a few views of what seemed like a large percentage of the CBRY roster sitting around the railroad's headquarters near Hayden, AZ. This frame shows off some of them, resting in pairs in various spots near the engine house with the CBRY 402 and 304 the closest duo to the camera. My understanding is that the mine trains haven't been running due to a strike and the smelter was/is at least temporarily down, so it was intriguing to see so much of the power positioned as though it was ready to be called to duty anytime.
A neat bit of railroad just from driving along it, and I hope the stars will align to allow me to return someday to get some moving views too.
