Temporary Parking
Winter's cold bite of two weeks of sub-zero temperatures seemed like it did a number of parts of the railroad system, which apparently included Chicago intermodal services. Evidence of that was to be found on the BNSF around La Crosse last week, when there were a number of dead trains hanging out on the main line along the Mississippi River.
Here BNSF 6101 is the leader on an eastbound stack train strung out through the curves at Victory, Wisconsin. This was in the middle of three trains that were parked on the main line between the crossovers at DeSoto and Genoa. All three were intermodal trains, at least one with Fed-Ex piggy backs mixed in. This meant effectively another 9 mile section of single track on the Aurora Sub and did lead to wait times for a number of trains at either end. Ironic considering all the efforts the BNSF took a number of years ago to get rid of the single track up in La Crosse...
I took advantage of this train being parked in about the perfect spot and with beautiful sunlight on a sunny Saturday morning to do sort of a mini photo-shoot with the aerial imaging device. This angle was one I especially liked for some reason.
I just pulled up ATCS and 6 days later despite the warm-up in temperatures it doesn't appear much has changed - there's still a block in that section of track with trains running around it...
