En los anfibios es bastante frecuente la existencia de glándulas que segregan un mucus viscoso y tóxico, depositado en la piel, o en ocasiones son las glándulas paratiroides las que vierten el tóxico en la cavidad bucal. En general, los géneros Salamandra, Triturus (tritones) y Bufo (sapos) poseen tales formaciones.
