La Real Biblioteca de Mafra posee cerca de 40.000 volúmenes, muchos de ellos únicos y de gran valor, reuniendo así un amplio catálogo cultural del saber del siglo XVIII. Algunos de los tomos fueron encuadernados artísticamente por los talleres de la Casa de la Librería.
Como curiosidad, es interesante conocer que el Real Convento de Mafra fue convertido en lugar literario por José Saramago en su novela "Memorial del Convento", donde recrea el Portugal del siglo XVIII a través de la historia del Convento de Mafra y explica muchos detalles de su construcción.

Mafra The Royal Library has about 40,000 volumes, many of them unique and valuable, bringing together a broad cultural knowledge catalog eighteenth century. Some of the volumes were artistically bound by the workshops of the House Library.
Curiously, it is interesting to know that the Royal Convent of Mafra was turned into literary place by José Saramago's novel "Memorial of the Convent" which recreates the Portugal of the XVIII century through the story of the Convent of Mafra and explains many details of construction.
