Trellick Tower

I use to live very close to this building for four years, during the course of my time in the area I began to gradually gain respect for this curious monolith more and more and feel less threatened by it's overbearing presence, until it simply became part of the skyline. Eventually it grew into something cherished and when I'd catch sight of it off in the distance cycling home along the canalmy heart lit up and I knew home was near. Each year in London they have an Open House weekend, in the past they've given access to a couple of apartments inside Trellick Tower – one is a very stylish, modern interior in a corner position up high with plenty of light. The other owned by an elderly couple who've lived there since the building was erected by Ernő Goldfinger (well aware of it's current worth) and thankfully they haven't touched a thing to this day so their apartment is as it was back in 1972. Both are fascinating spaces in their own right and it's interesting seeing them simultaneously if you get the chance. The elderly gentleman in the aforementioned apartment told me that Mr Goldfinger (as he apparently liked to be called) lived briefly in the space above the elevator shaft when the building was first complete. I understand to this day that 'apartment' remains unoccupied. Wikipedia page here.
