Orange dog or Giant Swallowtail
The yellow and black Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes) is a swallowtail butterfly common in various parts of North America, particularly the south and east, and down to Central and northern South America.
The adults are tailed like the forked tail of some swallows, giving the insect its name.
Giant Swallowtails prefer open woodlands and fields, citrus groves, and gardens near woodlands. The caterpillars of the Giant Swallowtail are pests of citrus plants.
This is how the butterfly was nicknamed the "Orange Dog".
With a wingspan of about 8,5 -15 cm is the Giant Swallowtail one of the largest butterflies in the United States.
