Clerodendrum thomsoniae, commonly called bleeding heart vine, is an evergreen liana growing to 4m tall, native to tropical West Africa from Cameroon west to Senegal.
An unambiguous common name is bleeding glory-bower.
Names like glory-bower, bagflower or bleeding-heart vine are also often encountered but can refer to any of the roughly 400 species of the genus Clerodendrum.
The flowers are born in cymose inflorescences arising from the axils of the leaves. The leaves, in turn, are arranged opposite to each other and at right angles to the pairs above and below.
De Clerodendrum thomsoniae, ook bekend als de klimmende klerodendrum en kansenboom, is een sierlijke groenblijvende klimplant met donkergroene bladeren die contrasteren met de opvallende witte bloemen.
De bloemen hebben een karakteristieke, buisvormige vorm en groeien vanuit de bladoksels. De bladeren staan tegenover elkaar en loodrecht op de paren erboven en eronder.
De soort komt van nature voor in West-Afrika, meer bepaald in het gebied van Kameroen tot Senegal.
