The Ruddy Shelduck or Casarca (Tadorna ferruginea) is a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae.
The shelducks are a group of larger waterfowl, which can be seen as intermediate between geese and ducks. The Ruddy Shelduck breeds in south-eastern Europe, east through southern and central Asia to Mongolia and western China, with separate populations in northwest Africa and Ethiopia. The Ruddy Shelduck is usually found around freshwater, salty and brackish lakes and rivers in open country, avoiding areas with dense, tall vegetation.
The Ruddy Shelduck in western, central and northern Europe are believed to be escapees or released birds from bird parks and they maintain themselves in the wild well.
The Ruddy Shelduck is a distinctive species, 58–70 cm long with a 110–135 cm wingspan. It has orange-brown body plumage and a paler head. The wings are white with black flight feathers.
It swims well, and in flight looks heavy, more like a goose than a duck. The sexes of this striking species are similar, but the male has a black ring at the bottom of the neck in the breeding season summer, and the female often has a white face patch.

De casarca of roestgans (Tadorna ferruginea) is een oranjebruine halfgans, een tussenvorm tussen een eend en een gans.
De vogel broedt in het noordoosten van Afrika, Zuidoost-Europa, Centraal-Azië en het zuidwesten van China.
Ze overwinteren in India en Zuidoost-Azië. De casarca is vaak te vinden in meren, moerasgebiede, brak water en rivierdelta's.
De in Nederland en andere Europese landen waargenomen verwilderde casarca's zijn veelal afkomstig uit watervogelcollecties. Ze handhaven zich in het wild ook goed en planten zich zelfs voort. Nu en dan komen kleine invasies van echt wilde vogels ook voor.
De casarca heeft een lengte van 58 à 70 cm en een spanwijdte van circa 120 cm. Daarmee is de casarca iets groter dan een eend, maar kleiner dan de meeste ganzensoorten.
Het verenkleed van zowel het mannetje als het vrouwtje is oranjeachtig bruin. De kop van het vrouwtje is iets lichter. Het mannetje heeft in de zomer bovendien een zwarte halsring.
De snavel en de poten zijn zwartachtig. De ogen zijn donkerbruin.
De casarca is vrijwel even groot als de nauw verwante bergeend. De kleuren zijn echter erg verschillend. De casarca heeft qua kleuren wel wat weg van de Nijlgans, ook een halfgans.

Dit kleinschalige dierenpark is inmiddels opgeheven.
