Isabella’s Longwing

Isabella’s Longwing, Isabella's Tiger or Isabella's Heliconian (Eueides isabella) is a species of nymphalid butterfly, belonging to Heliconiinae subfamily.Some sources consider this species as Heliconius Isabella, or too Heliconius ismenius.

Isabella's Longwing can be found from Mexico and Central America to the Amazon Basin and the West Indies. The butterfly is an occasional immigrant to central and south Texas.

Habitats are tropical second-growth forest and woodland margins.

It can be found from sea level to 1,500 m. The flight period extends to the whole year in the tropical habitat.

Isabella’s Longwing is a l butterfly with a wingspan of 7,5 - 9 cm.

The uppersides of the wings is dark brown, with orange bands and yellowish markings on the edges of the forewings.

The undersides of the wings are quite similar to the uppersides, but the edges of the hindwings show a series of small blue spots.
