Apple-green swallowtail
The apple-green swallowtail (Papilio phorcas), too the green-banded swallowtail, is a species of butterfly in the family Papilionidae (the Swallowtails).
The African Swallowtail is endemic and widespread in the tropical African countries south of the Sahara Desert.
The butterfly is black with broad, green bands and areas.
Hind wings have tails. The wingspan is about 8 – 9 cm.
The underside is a copy from upside. But, the basic colour is brown.
This picture was taken in the indoor butterfly garden "De Passiflorahoeve" in Harskamp, the Netherlands.
