Givet on the river Meuse
The charming small town of Givet is located in the north of France in the Ardennes near the Belgian border on the river Meuse (Maas).
The Meuse flows into Belgium here.
The town of Givet is not only dominated by the Meuse, but also by the impressive fortress of Charlemont, which looks down over the town from a high rock. This fort was built in the 16th century by Charles the Fifth and then fortified by Vauban in the 17th century.
Het stadje Givet ligt in de Franse Ardenen aan de rivier Maas die hier België binnenstroomt. De stad heeft een rijke geschiedenis en dat komt mede door de strategische ligging aan de Maas.
Het indrukwekkende dominante fort op een stijle heuvel geeft Givet een bijzondere uitstraling. Het fort is in de 16e eeuw gebouwd door Karel de vijfde en in de 17e eeuw versterkt.
