These tees have had a nipple protruded on one side. The next step is for a hole to be cut in the nipple. It will then be heated and placed into a die, with the nipple-side facing down. A machine will send a piece up through the hole in the nipple, which will attach to a rounded piece placed inside the pipe by a worker, then pull the worker's piece down through the hole in the nipple, thereby extruding a tee from a pipe segment.
