Functionality at All Ages

In the Vatican, there is a hall of maps. The name given to the room is an accurate descriptor of what it includes. On the west wall are the maps of Italian cities close to the Mediterranean Sea and on the east are cities close to the Adriatic Sea. The map I found the most interesting was the map of Venice. All these maps were commissioned in the 16th century. Generally, when one would think of a map dating as far back as 500 years, it is generally safe to assume it is no longer an accurate representation of the routes through a city. This is not the case for the map of Venice. I learned that this map can still be used today to navigate around Venice. Upon learning this, I realized that functionality and old age co-exist in both animate and inanimate things.
