Lee Christensen - Journal

My journal was created to replicate the game "Barrel of Monkeys".

Often when contemplating design ideas and solutions I feel as if I have a bunch of monkeys going all directions in my brain so this is a very good representation of me and my thought processes! :P

 

I began by sculpting the barrel on the front and back covers. Once I had them sculpted I then baked the entire book for about 20 minutes in the oven at about 250 degrees. Then I sculpted the monkey and baked him as well.

Once these had cooled I painted them. After the paint dried I sealed them with an acrylic sealer.

 

I was concerned about the monkey being on the front. I thought it may come off easily so I drilled a couple of holes into the cover of the journal and the back of the monkey in order to insert pegs and epoxy. This really fastened him in place and made him a permanent part of the cover.

 

The front and back inside cover of the journal is cork board where I can pin small notes, pictures, or ideas that i'd like to keep.
