Aviation Records of the MiG-21

* The most built jet aircraft in history - over 11,000!

* The most built combat aircraft after World War II

* The longest built combat aircraft - used by over 50 air forces on four continents

The MiG-21 had a short range amplified by a design defect where the center of gravity shifted rearwards once two-thirds of the fuel had been used. This made the plane nearly uncontrollable after about 45 minutes. The delta wing, while excellent for a fast-climbing interceptor, meant any form of turning combat led to a rapid loss of speed. However, at 50% fuel, with 2 Atoll missiles, a climb rate of 58,000 ft. per minute was possible.
