Robert Gutteridge Cowling
Robert Gutteridge COWLING. Lance Corporal 2409, 4th Leicestershire Regiment who fell at Loos, 13th October 1915, and died of his wounds on the 15th October aged 19. Son of Frederick and Susannah Elizabeth, (nee Gutteridge) of 141, Upperton Road, Leicester. Native of Clay Goss, Derbyshire. He is commemorated on his grandparents Robert and Alice Cowling memorial in St John the Baptist and All Saints Churchyard, Easingwold, Yorkshire, at rest in Sailly-Labourse Communal Cemetery, France.

He joined up on the 31st August 1914 and posted to 4th Leicestershire Regiment. He was aged 18 and 8 months, occupation, apprentice ??. His father Frederick was his next of kin and he was living at 141 Upperton Road, Leicester. On the 25th June 1915 he was posted to France, appointed Lance Corporal on the 9th August 1915. Wounded in battle at Jonquires, France on the 13th October 1915 and was treated at 1/3rd North Midland Division Field Ambulance where he died of his wounds at 7.25 am on the morning of the 14th October 1915.
