Sana'a snapshots

Sana'a is the capital city of the Yemen. The houses are built in a very characteristic style out of mud bricks and decorated with ornate plasterwork to prevent rain damage. They are 6-8 stories high. They tend to have an observation room right at the top, with windows on all sides which provide wonderful panoramic views of the city. The observation room opens out onto the flat roof of the house.

This image was taken from the flat roof of our hotel, which was a traditional Sana'a townhouse. It had only basic facilities but 5 star character. On the ground floor there was an indoor garden with fruit trees where breakfast and dinner was served. The observation room had rugs on the floor and cushions along the walls. There was a low table at the centre for food, drinks and games. The night views were particularly great.
