56th Southend Barge Match, 2024.
The Barge Match took place on the Thames Estuary by Southend. It's just a delight to see these barges gliding, quite quickly, through the water. There was a fair breeze to assist. I (again!) pulled my 17 year old Nikon out of retirement, as that's the camera that I put my Tamron 18-270mm lens on. It's the longest lens I have.
I got the little train that runs along the pier, to the pier head. The barges cut in very close to the pier, so that helped. This barge is called 'Ironsides'. She's a beauty. The barge on the right, is 'Marjorie'. All four barges in the match were fabulous.
