International Harvester Scout 80

"So help me, Mr. Reese, manager of engineering, said 'Design something to replace the horse.'"

"People on the highways in Dallas would not only get out of my way but get over two lanes so they didn’t accidentally contract tetanus as I went by."

This thing is interesting. A farm equipment company in the early 60s building a sort of truck/proto-SUV to compete with the Jeep CJ, allegedly making it from steel that may already have been slightly rusty before even being brought into the factory.

Yeeeaah, if the Scout is known for anything, it's known for its rust. But from every source I found, it was simple, pretty good off road, easy to fix, and easy to customize. Oh, and rust-prone.

I'm not sure how or where I came across it, probably while researching the old Bronco. I knew immediately that it'd be an interesting challenge. I originally intended to do the Scout II, but I think the 80 is more unique. It's taken me a couple of attempts to get it to look anything like the Scout, but I'm pretty satisfied with the result.
