In better days they traded here . . .

the folks of this town and the farms around. Once the shelves were well stocked with their needs. Storekeepers looked out the big glass to see all the comings and goings. Neighbors lingered on the sidewalk under the deep awning to share a bit of news or gossip. There was a day when this street was full of life and a hopeful future . . . but that image is fading fast. They couldn't have imagined this - and we can't figure out a way to stop it.

In the middle of this silent, empty street, songs come to mind. This time it was that simple poignant bit from Simon and Garfunkel. Remember Bookends?

Time it was, and what a time it was. It was . . .

A time of innocence,

A time of confidences.

Long ago, it must be,

I have a photograph.

Preserve your memories,

They're all that's left you.
