Some of this popular Buddhism focussed on the figure of Maitreya: expected to be the firth in a line of Buddha-type figures, of whom Sakyamuni/Siddartha was the fourth, the coming saviour. Isolated figures in the open air are reportedly conventionally associated with this figure in Korea.
