Crumbling infrastructure [enhanced]

Plainly, this island has been cracking up over the years, with pieces dropping off into the lake.

The clear water is one of the reasons I love this lake, and go there as often as I can.

Most water would be this clear if conditions were pristine. Lake George has a small watershed; a lot of it is forested mountains, which makes the water cold and clear. But as people replace small vacation cabins with modern homes with lawns, fertilizers run into the lake. You can see the algae growing on these rocks - which was not the case 60 years ago when I first came here.

This version is enhanced to show the rock structure better.
