Winter Fox
I was driving back Route 480 today and saw a fox up ahead on the snowbank on left side of the highway. So I pulled in and grabbed my camera, hoping to get a shot before it disappeared into the woods. To my surprise it got down off the snowbank, came and stood in the center of the road, and looked up at me. I guess maybe it's been getting handouts from some passing motorists. Anyway, I grabbed a few shots as it was sitting there near the median line, but when it realized I wasn't going to give it anything, it trotted over to the passenger side of the pickup and got up on the snowbank over there. I guess thinking my wife would be more sympathetic to its sweet looking countenance. (But she wasn't) Since it was now safely off the road, I got out and took some shots. It was very tame. Not at all skittish. I shot this from about six feet away ... and could have gotten closer.
Couldn't stay long, though. It was starting to snow as you can see in the photo. We have some nasty weather coming. 15-20 cm of snow ... high winds (150km near the coast), changing to freezing rain and then heavy rain in the morning. No chance to get a shot of the lunar eclipse. :-( Guess these shots will be the consolation prize.
