Ice ... and Ice
I know you can see that that's ice in the foreground, but maybe you think that's open water behind it. It's not! It's ice, too! Don't believe me? Just zoom in and you'll see three stones that I threw out on the surface. Actually, I threw five. The first one made a hole and fell through. The second ... believe it or not ... made a hole too, but then it skittered to the right and went down through the first hole! If I tried a million more times I know I'd never be able to repeat that. By, the way, besides the stones, you can see those two holes, too.
I saw this while driving up Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula on this day, but didn't stop to take a shot. Saw it again while on the way down, but again, didn't stop. After driving for a few kilometers, though, I just had to turn around and go back. Ended up taking 170 shots of the area ... besides having a little fun. :-)
This is a small pond right along side the highway. The Strait of Belle Isle is just on the other side. You can see it if you zoom in. I've placed it on the map, too.
