Super Blood Moon In Pisces

There are only three times I've ever travelled any distance to purposely get a photograph. Some years ago a small herd of seals came close to shore near Port au Choix on the Great Northern Peninsula to birth because of a lack of ice in the Strait. I went up there and managed to get quite a few shots ... a few of which I have uploaded here to Flickr. Then, early spring, two years ago a Pelican was spotted near Roddickton, again on the Great Northern Peninsula, but farther up. That's a pretty rare bird for these parts, so I decided to go have a look, see if I could photograph it. Some people did get shots of it and it actually made the news, but, by the time I made it up there it was long gone. Then, there's the Super Moon total eclipse. It was a cloudy day with rain here Sunday, but in the afternoon it looked like it was going to clear, so I thought I might get a glimpse of the eclipse through some breaks in the clouds. Then, late afternoon, the clouds moved in again. I had been monitoring traffic cams from different parts of the island all day and Port aux Basques, 200 kilometers to the west, had had blue sky all day, so around 5:30PM I decided to give up on hoping to see it here and went to Port aux Basques for the night. It was a very wise decision! I was rewarded with perfectly clear skies all night and a beautiful spectacle! Stayed in Port aux Basques for the night, but came back to Wreckhouse and the dark skies there to get my shots.

By the way, I uploaded this shot yesterday after I got back home, but was so fed up with what Flickr did to it that I didn't make it visible. It looked great on my computer, but when Flickr got hold of it, it made the top so dark it was almost black! So, I had to make the shot much lighter before I uploaded it again, hoping that that would fix it. It's better, but still not good in my opinion.
