2_TON_UP_TWIRPS_IN_A_TR4-3_3

The TR4 picture is a story –viz - About the start of the 60s, Southend was plagued with ton-up boys roaring up and down the A127 Arterial Road between Southend & London when they wasn’t fighting mods on our Seafront. The Chief (A really great man named McConnach) decided we would have a dedicated sports car patrolling the Arterial. We first tried out a Daimler Sp250 Dart but apart from being ‘exotic’ it was too dear so then we had an Austin-Healey 3000 that made more noise then the motor bikes. Then we tried an MGA I think it was called but 2 fat coppers couldn’t get in it so we finally settled on a TR4. The only thing I ever caught driving it.. was backache from the hard suspension and leg cramps at the end of an 8 hour shift and I have never had nor wanted a sports car since.
