"SEPIA" with MIMC shipstation 1960's

a standard and complete radio telegraph / telephone ships radiostation

as fitted by Marconi International Marine Company MIMC in the '60s

similar to the one fitted as the original station on British built

Dutch Shelltanker "SEPIA" PHKW

in its time, a very nice station to work with,

mainly because of

this powerfull main transmitter

the MIMC "Globespan"

crystal controlled

MF : CW MCW 275 watts 7 preset channels

IF : CW MCW AM 100 watts

HF : CW AM 400 watts 5 preset channels in 4,6,8,12,16 and 22 MHz marine bands

and those 2 good general purpose marine receivers,

the MIMC "Atalanta", being a pure luxury ,

frequency range 15 kHz to 28 MHz, in ten bands.

modes AM / CW / MCW

the only complete MIMC station i ever worked with.

very very nice, in its time.

Auto Keyer

would transmit a alarmsignal and/or complete distresscall

( the 12, four second dashes with 1 second spacing then SOS SOS SOS de PHKW )

This was repeated and followed by a 10 second dash for D/F homing purposes.

If left on and with the Emergency Transmitter flashed up, it will repeat this sequence every 14 minutes but without the 4 second dashes, until the radio reserve battery goes dead.

In this way, if abandoned, the ships radio station could automatically repeat the distress call.

and provide for homing signals.

Clever, handy, but i am very very glad never had to use this feature.

Lifeguard Auto Alarm

will ring a bell in the Radio Room, on the Bridge and at the Radio's Officers bunk

on the receipt of the auto alarm signal from another ship in distress
