shubhangi athalye
Puja
Hindu symbols and offerings are all derived from nature...fruits, flowers, leaves, spices, water. It appeals to all senses...there is color, smell, touch and sound. Here, the coconut symbolises fertility, prosperity. Turmeric, a 4000 year old spice has many medicinal and nutritive properties. Rice was a staple in India from ancient times. Incence purifies the atmosphere, induces a good environment for meditating. The oil lamp banishes darkness. Fruits are the most nutritious and basic food offered by nature. This not really out of any book but from what I have absorbed as part of this culture. You are welcome to contradict or contribute to this !!
