NGC 2903
NGC 2903 è una galassia a spirale barrata visibile nella costellazione del Leone.
Con le sue dimensioni apparenti di 12.6'x5.5' (la Luna piena ad occhio nudo ha una dimensione apparente di 30') e magnitudine 9.7 è una delle galassie più notevoli dell'emisfero boreale.
Si trova a 24 milioni di anni luce e il suo diametro reale è di 88000 anni luce, risultando quindi leggermente più piccola della nostra galassia (la Via Lattea).
Le regioni centrali di NGC 2903 sono caratterizzate da grandi quantità di polveri così come i bracci a spirale che nascono lì.
Nella parte inferiore dell'immagine è visibile la debole galassia UGC 5086, che si ritiene essere una compagna di NGC 2903.

NGC 2903 is a spiral barred galaxy in Leo constellation.
With dimensions 12.6'x5.5' and magnitude 9.7, it is one of the most remarkable galaxies in the nothern emisphere.
It is located 24 millions light years away and its real diameter is 88000 light years, so a bit smaller than Milky Way.
Large amount of dusts dominate the inner regions and the spiral arms which begin there.
On the lower side of the image its is visible the faint galaxy UGC 5086, which is believed to be a companion of NGC 2903.
