L'abbazia di San Fruttuoso - Saint Fruttuoso abbey
L’abbazia di San Fruttuoso si trova nel piccolo omonimo “borgo” ai piedi del monte di Portofino.
E’ raggiungibile unicamente via mare (da Camogli ci si impiega 30 minuti in battello) o tramite impervi sentieri.
Le prime testimonianze del Monastero risalgono addirittura al 984, ma è nel 1200 che viene costruita l’abbazia vera e propria, grazie alle elargizioni della potente famiglia genovese dei Doria, che in cambio ottenne il privilegio di poter usare la cripta attigua al chiostro inferiore come sepolcreto di famiglia.
La foto è stata scattata a metà mattina, prima che orde di “gitanti della domenica” occupassero la piccola spiaggetta di fronte all’abbazia :-)

The Saint Fruttuoso abbey is located in the small homonymous village at the feet of Portofino’s mount (Liguria, Northern Italy).
It is possible to reach this abbey only by boat (about 30’ from Camogli) o by feet on steep paths.
The first testimonies of the abbey dates back to the 984, but it is only in the XIII cent. that the abbey was built, thanks to the donations made by the powerful family of Doria, which in exchange obtained the right to bury their deaths in the crypt near the inferior cloister.
In front of the abbey there is a small and nice beach.
