Dec 20 - Marty Robbins
December 20th 2011
Day twenty of the December Diary 2011 Project This years Theme... 'MUSIC' %-)
There are a number of Artists that I am very fond of, whose music I grew up with and discovered thanks to my Mum. Her three favourites from those early years... and now mind too... Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen (both who I'll be featuring separately later)... and Marty Robbins.
These albums of 'Gunfighter Ballads' and 'Hits from South of the Border' are classic! He was the most wonderful story teller and had an absolutely amazing voice. My Mum has a love for Country & Western Music... and also Spanish, Mexican, South American Music. Marty Robbins had a wonderful fusion of both... along with that fantastic voice! I loved listening to him when I was young and still love these songs today. I love the classic images on the album covers too.. and wanted to make sure I included them in the December Diary! %-)
Below are a selection of my favourite songs... from the traditional Western Ballads like El Paso to the more commercial 'popular' music like It's a Sin (my favourite!). He honestly had the most amazing vocal range. If you've not heard him before... I hope you'll take the time to check him out! %-)
Chatting andSinging with Johnny Cash... on 'The Johnny Cash Show'
Streets of Loredo (with Johnny Cash)
Big Mouthing Around (with Marty Robbins Jnr.. I found this one by chance... and have added it to show my Mum, as neither of us knew of his son!)
(A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation was not a favourite of mine... but was probably his best known commercial song).
