Max & The Wild Things - For the Whispery White Wednesday Toys Theme
"The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind... and another
his mother called him "WILD THING!"
and Max said "I'll EAT YOU UP!"
so he was sent to bed without eating anything.
That very night in Max's room a forest grew.. and grew-
and grew until his ceiling hung with vines and the walls became the world around
and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max
and he sailed off through night and day
and in and out of weeks and almost a year to where the wild things are.
And when he came to the place where the wild things are they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
til Max said "BE STILL!" and tamed them with the magic trick
of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
and made him king of all wild things
"And now", cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"...
Excerpt from "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak
Who didn't know and LOVE this book as a child! %-)
A few years ago I spotted Max and his friends in a toy shop...
and just HAD to take them home with me....
Now I have the perfect excuse to share them with you too! %-)

I am reposting this image that I shot a couple of years ago of Max and his 'Wild' friends...
I heard on the news this morning that Maurice Sendak passed away today...
So I wanted to pay tribute to his brilliance...Such a wonderful author and classic book!
I have another lovely vintage set of little books by Sendak that I picked up in an antique shop in California when I was there last year... I'll have to pull them out later to share with you too! %-)
