Forgotten Purpose

Only sheep and ponies rule these lands now.

Merrivale is formerly known locally as the 'Plague Market' where food and provisions were brought to the stone rows by the country people and left as supplies for the Tavistock towns folk at a time when the plague struck the town - around 1625.

You can see a Bronze Age kistvaen (stone tomb) in the middle of the row and a stopping stone at the far end.
