My big bro Jean

Jean is actually not my real relative, he's one of my best buddies and he

takes care of me like a big brother, so we bound ourselves as brother and

sister. We were introduced by a common friend James, who used to be my

colleague two years ago when I was doing an internship in a foreign company.

At that time I was helping my mom a little bit with her project to bid for

the Olympic National Stadium, the biggest project among all Beijing Olympic

sports venues. I wanted to improve their English version of the digital

bidding document (a DVD presentation of the project plan) because the one

they made sucked. As the English version was really important to give a

good impression to the many voters from other countries, I insisted that

they re-do it all over again. That quickly decided, 2 days before the

deadline, I told James about this, he gave me Jean's phone number, I called

him and everything was set. Back then, Jean was working as a host at

"Culture Express" an English programme in CCTV-9, he's got a charming voice

and the moment I talked with him, I knew he was the right person who would

create something beautiful for the project. We worked 40 hours without

sleep, also with the assistance of Emile (Yang Bo), the only break for me

and YangBo was 2 hour Karaoke from 6-8am the morning after first night's

work. He was so absorbed into his work at hand, and so concentrated and

efficient, re-writing all the scripts and recording them in the studio and

supervising the editing of the film, so careful and devoted! I was so

impressed and amazed by this, so later when he's back in Beijing, he asked

me whether I'd come to his studio when he was working, I was so happy,

because I love watching this guy work! Once he asked me to help him with a

commercial script, after we've done it, we went out to paint the bar street

of Chaoyang park west gate, and that was the time he taught me what an

alcohol feast was like, hehe. Now he's doing his second master's degree in

a film art school in California, meanwhile producing some short films, TV

programmes in both China and the US. He doesn't come back to Beijing very

often since he's too busy in the US, but he said when he comes back, he

feels like home immediately and he loves this city. I asked him why, he

said you can see this city changing and this is exciting. It's not like New

York City (that he likes too) where everything is already well established.

Anyway, I feel so lucky that he's here one week before I go to Europe, that

we had a chance to meet up and drink:-)
