Photorealism
Photorealism was a movement in painting that arose in the 60s. Its defining characteristic is that painters used photographs or slides to make their paintings. Photorealism extended into the realm of sculpture, when sculptors began using life molds to make hyperrealistic castings. Duane Hanson is the best known sculptor, but J. Seward Johnson's work is more widespread due to his "street sculptures," such as this one. This work, Allow Me, is outside the Chicago Four Seasons hotel.
From the beginning, I captured this image with the intention of making it 3D. What does "photorealism" mean in this context?
