The Kryptonite Chevrolet 3100 pickup is a B/Gas drag racer. Many of the rods photographed at the 2017 edition of the Goodguys show in Des Moines were based on gassers, a popular general category of hotrods in the Midwest. These are cars designed to look good inside the conventions of historical gas dragsters, but also to perform well in vintage events and be street legal.
For those who are art aficionados, the man casually chomping his cigar reminds me of figures painted by Phillip Guston, such as the one that appears in Painting, Smoking, Eating.
This is one of my favorite photographs of hotrods and people.
