The dangers were always discussed around tables and in war counsels but as is often the case in times of war the potential damages are deemed acceptable risks, or necessary evils. It's not until the dust settles and the lines have been drawn that the real wounds begin to fester.

 

During the war thousands of autonomous units were deployed with directives and survival protocols hardwired in. The nature of autonomous unmanned weapons is such that long after a conflict is concluded they will still carry out their mission, indifferent to those they engage.

 

Although the disappearances have waned in the past years due to the efforts of mercenaries and well armed hunting parties, even to this day, now and then rumors will emerge talking of hulking metal beasts roaming the wastes of the old world, carrying out the orders of ghosts long dead, crusading for empires now reduced to ruins.

 

Only the gods know the torment of these timeless warriors.
