Stone in Motion

I know I said I wasn't posting anymore for the rest of the year. So I lied. I wanted a chance to say thank you to all my Flickr friends for their support during this past year and to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

My husband and I recently returned from visiting the iconic Wave in northern Arizona. Only 20 people allowed there a day!

We were afraid we weren't going to make it. Just days before, the area had experienced major rains with flooding. The road to the trailhead is impassable when wet. My husband called to find out the road condition and was told the road wouldn't be safe to drive on for at least a week...we would be there in two days.

Our hotel clerk gave us hope. He seemed to think the road would be okay. Our first night in the area, we scouted the road to the trailhead and talked to people returning from Wire Pass...yes, it was passable.

Of course, the next day, light rain began to fall. We made it down the road and hiked up to the Wave. Along the way, we had rain and some snowflakes. A little sun, but not much. The overcast sky gave us great even lighting...however, I ended up focusing on more abstract shots as the sky was gray and had so little texture.

Since we didn't know how much more precipitation would fall, we opted to leave earlier than we had planned. The road condition had worsened - still passable, but we were thankful for our 4x4 vehicle.

Despite not having optimal conditions, it was such a fantastic place to visit. Hopefully, we'll be able to return with better conditions.

Best Wishes to everyone for a Happy and photographically productive 2011!
