A pigeon/pheasant for Miles
The gannets at Muriwai Beach soar along the air currents around the cliffs and come up quite close to the observation decks. I took this with my 100mm-400mm lens, but you could get away with a wide angle lens. Sometimes the birds would zip along and soar away. Other times, they would land just below you. It was really thrilling to watch them fly so close. This shot is SOOC--no crop, just some minor white balance changes and sharpening. I was at my longest focal length here (400mm).
The title? It's dedicated to my Flickr buddy mm767cap. He's funny, he's helpful, he photographs awesome landscapes, he thinks my dog is cute...but for some reason, he thinks all flying birds are either pheasants or pigeons. He explains here: www.flickr.com/photos/mm767cap/4071500885/
