Buprestis aurulenta

After reading about this little guy I guess they lie dormant for 50-70 years come out of a tree lay eggs and die in a month so it was amazing I caught this once in a lifetime moment.

 

This was a test of my 50mm when I first got it out in my front yard.

 

This was taken in the Santa Cruz mountains of Central California and this is about 1 inch long.
