Herberts Travel (ex-Northern General 3746) Leyland Olympian 9.6m (ECW bodied) B746GCN

3746 was new to Northern General in 4/1985. It has an uncommon engine and gearbox combination among 2-axle Olympians - Cummins LT10 coupled to Voith DIWA. Only Northern General's B-GCN & C-LJR and South Wales' C-FCY have this combination, totalling just over 50. Not sure if South Wales' examples are 4-speed or not, but the Northern General ones are. The gearbox should be D854.2, as you can hear the retarder working until the vehicle stopped, then switched back to traction mode at 0:29 & 1:23.

It ran on the 2nd trip of "Bert's Hong Kongers", which aimed at "roads very rarely or never normally served by double deckers", organised by Chris Martin & Nik Anthony. That was a long trip from Bedford to Cambridge and back. Signs of coolant overflow after running for 1.5hr at photo stop at Coton, and failed to start after a short break at St Neots. Chiltern Travel Volvo Olympian S764SVU was called in for rescue. Not a good start of the day, and as you may already knew, the 3rd trip ended in an "exciting" way, where L736SNO reversed into a ditch and had to be towed out!
