Port Adelaide Town Hall

Nile Street extension.

Foundation stone 11 Aug 1884 by Mayor Thomas John King, built when Town Hall in St Vincent Street extended, now Council Offices.

 

“Enlargement of Port Adelaide Town Hall. . . Behind the stage, and fronting Nile-street, is a two-story building with a Dry Creek stone front and cement dressings. The entrance-doorway is deeply recessed and rusticated, the windows being circular-headed. The quoins are rusticated, the whole being surmounted by a heavy cantilever cornice, with a panel over the centre, in which appears the name of the chambers, and which is finished with a moulded pediment. . . This block contains a number of offices besides accomodation [sic] for the various officers of the Corporation, the Mayor's Room, Councillors' Room, and the Council Chamber.” [Register 10 Mar 1885]
