Waikerie Lutheran church

Foundation stone 1 Feb 1953, opened 28 Feb 1954 as Redeemer Lutheran, amalgamated with St Paul’s congregation, plaque unveiled 11 Feb 1990.

 

“Mr. Doehler will dedicate the new Redeemer Church at Waikerie tomorrow morning.” [Advertiser 27 Feb 1954]

 

“At a recent parish meeting, members of the Mid-Murray Lutheran parish, long known as the Lowbank parish, decided to change the name to the Waikerie parish now the manse is situated in that town, and. a church has also been built there.” [News 13 May 1954]

 

WAIKERIE ST PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH

Foundation stone 9 Aug 1925 by C A Promnitz, opened 1926, amalgamated with Redeemer congregation, now used by school as library.

 

“the foundation stone of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waikerie was performed on Sunday afternoon in propitious weather. There was a large gathering of people from Waikerie and district and from Eudunda, Low Bank, Mt Mary, Morgan, New Residence and Blanchetown. Members of the Lutheran Church have been holding services locally in private houses for about 20 years At one time the services were conducted on the other side of the river.” [Murray Pioneer 14 Aug 1925]
