Foundation stone 27 Sep 1902 by William Saumarez Smith, Archbishop of Sydney, architect Thomas Henry Lyon, opened 1 Sep 1903, extensions 1915, war shrine 1923. Replaced 1882 St George’s across the road.
“The main outer walls are to be constructed of hollow brickwork, which will be plastered inside and rough cast outside, whilst the piers and arches of the nave and aisles and the window arches will be of Murray River freestone. A feature of the church when completed will be the existence o£ a lady chapel, on the south side of the chancel.” [Advertiser 27 Sep 1902]
“Under the enthusiastic direction of the rector (the Rev. P. W. C. Wise), and guided by his energetic example, the congregation have toiled assiduously from the moment it was first proposed to have a new church . . . Nearly all the ornaments and ecclesiastical furniture had been placed there by loving hands in memory of some dear departed.” [Register 2 Sep 1903]
“On Saturday afternoon next, at 3 o'clock, Mrs. Harry Bickford will lay the foundation stone of some extensions which are being made to St. George's Anglican Church at Goodwood. These improvements consist of a new organ chamber and an oratory. When the organ is moved the space which it at present occupies will form another side chapel, the altar of which will be dedicated to All Souls. The oratory will be known as 'the oratory of the Guild of the Love of God.” [Register 23 Jan 1915]
