Pressure Ridge

Kluane Lake has amazing and dynamic natural forces constantly at work, as shown here in ice near the shore. Great pressure ridge from very dense ice expansion and movement, it would be interesting to live here and experience the booming sounds it must make.

 

Typically Kluane's waters are turquoise in color, as is the very clear, dense winter ice. Kluane Lake appears turquoise due to fine glacial silt suspended in the water, that when the sunlight enters the water it's angle of refraction is altered, causing the light that emerges to look turquoise.
