Sarah Bernhardt?
I used to think this is a Sarah Bernhardt peony, but now I have doubts. I have another (Sarah Bernhardt), right next to this one, and it is so fully doubled, almost 'frilly,' quite different.
Whatever this is, it's my favorite peony on the whole planet. (But then... I haven't seen them all....) It is extremely hardy, surviving past winters down into the -70sF (-55 to -60C) and comes back each spring with beautiful blooms in summer, with no protection other than growing in a bed against the south side of my house.
If you have any ideas to it's variety, I'd love to hear them. I am sure I would recognize it's name if I saw it, as I have only grown a half dozen varieties of peony, only four successfully.
