Spring Crocus
My first siting of spring crocus (Pulsatilla patens ssp. multifida) this year, this might be the earliest I've seen them emerge.
Temperature this morning was 17°F (-8°C). The furry hairs on the plant and flowers gives the plant means to gather and store warmth from the sun, enabling their survival.
It's entirely possible these flowers will be covered with snow once or twice again this spring.
