SoundVision Wins Best Green Building Project

It was SoundVision's mastery of energy-efficient design and ability to surpass LEED qualifications that earned the company the prestigious Remmie Award presented by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. The award highlighted SoundVision's design and installation of a holistic control system that maximizes energy efficiency of every electronic and electrical component of a Marin County home.

Bottom line: the home generates more electricity than it consumes in a year.

Here's how SoundVision did it, in collaboration with Mahoney Architects & Interiors, Anna Kondolf Lighting Design and Larwood Construction:

Expensive use of LED lighting fixtures and intelligent lighting controls. A power management system reduces energy use by up to 70% by shutting down systems completely, instead of placing them in stand-by mode.

Installation of sensors throughout the home to monitor power, water and gas consumption. Sensors provide data in real-time to elegantly designed touch-screen control panels, allowing homeowners to monitor energy consumption.

Majority of materials used in the project are sustainable or recycled. Surrounding property was landscaped to reuse rainwater for irrigation, and a 12-kilowatt solar system serves as the home's primary power source.
