On top of the world
We stayed for 2 nights in St Wolfgang in Austria, with the hope of using the little cog railway to take us to the top of the Schafberg mountain. Yet again, we were very lucky with the weather - it was raining when we arrived in St Wolfgang but the next day was warm and sunny. The railway, opened in 1893, runs from beside the lake to the top of the Schafberg (1,783 m) gaining around 1,200 metres. The views from the top are stunning.
There are a couple of shots of the trains in the comment below. These are the more modern, oil-fired steam engines, built in the 1990s. The original coal-fired engines from the 1890s still run but only on a limited number of dates.
