IR False-color mineral map of asteroid 4 Vesta

Vesta mineral map. Overlay of image taken on July 31, 2011 with a false-color image taken with multiple color fileters of the Dawn Framing Camera and released as PIA14325.

HiPass images were used in the colorized region to re-enhance details. Contrast adjustment (regional) was also used.

In the image, bright yellowsh splats can be seen to co-locate to bright craters. The large crater at upper right on the border of the colorized region ("Brachiopod crater") looks unassuming in false-color. But the crater to the South has bright orange chunks ang a reddish stain emanating from it. An interesting orange stain can also be seen in the floor of a crater to the NW.
